The Minstrel
Original oil painting, 26"x31"
Before friends gathered to create the unique sound of jazz, solitary musicians sat on upside-down buckets on street corners. Playing banjos or any object that would strum out a rhythm, they gave birth to a whole new generation of musical soul.
“The Minstrel” was painted from an obscure, tiny black and white photo of one such street musician. Little did he know, with his labor-worn shirt and patched shoes, that he was giving life to jazz.
